Favorite Thing

A song about his two sons — from the Olly Olly EP.

Of everything thirty years on the road has given him, the two of them are the favorite. Simple, honest, and the one he wants you to hear first.

The story
Made in the Tempe scene.

Born in Newport Beach, raised on the road. Stephen came up in the fertile early-'90s Tempe scene alongside the Gin Blossoms, The Refreshments, and Dead Hot Workshop — the alt-rock wave that put Arizona on the map. He's been earning the room ever since.

Seven studio albums and a double live. Songs like "Scotch and a Handgun" that move like a highway, and "White Balloons" that hit quiet, later. His voice sits somewhere between open-road grit and a baritone you feel before you hear.

Open-road heartland folk-rock, somewhere between Tom Petty's gravel and a smooth falsetto — songwriting that earns comparisons to Petty, the Wallflowers, and Joe Henry.Adapted from press coverage of his catalog

He's shared stages with Peter Frampton, America, Kansas, Blues Traveler, The Beach Boys, Kenny Loggins, and the Gin Blossoms, and toured with Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers. He played for President Clinton at his Phoenix event, on an official request that came through the White House. Twice named the Phoenix Tribune's Best Acoustic Performer.

Three decades on, he still tours the US and Europe behind his records — and he's still writing.

Gold'n Delicious

A Phoenix folktronica band born out of a collaboration between P.H. Naffah (The Refreshments, Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers), Stephen, and Nick Sterling (Wyves, Sebastian Bach) — folky acoustics, old-school synths, and modern electronica. A blend of wood, wire, and song.

Their latest single, "Climbing Higher," is out everywhere now.
